Kitty's Log

Date: 27-02-2022

Weather: Dry & bright

Hello dear friends and hope this finds you well.

Sorry I've not done a blog post for a while (I'm ashamed to say it's been nearly three weeks) but there has been a lot going on here at Casa Tubbs...

Sadly an auntie of my human passed away over in Ireland on Friday last. Auntie Breda was in hospital and things started to take a bad turn.

The family was called and began the four hour drive from West Cork to Dublin to be with her but sadly, they arrived 30 minutes too late and she had already passed away.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

In Ireland the burial takes place quite quickly so the funeral is already tomorrow... It was all a bit tricky to sort out time off and flights at such short notice so my human will light a candle here in Maastricht and take some time to say some prayers and reflect.

Earlier this month, my humans had to cancel a visit to Barcelona. They were due to travel on 17th February (their first time on an airplane since March 2020!) but unfortunately on 15th February, they both tested positive on a Covid self-test.

Sadly the PCR test at the GGD office the next day confirmed the worst... so after two years of not contracting the virus, they tested positive two days before a little weekend away. Such bad luck :(

And this also meant I didn't get to go to my 5-star room at De Gelaarsde Kat either! Sigh...

My humans went straight into home quarantine and hunkered down to get over the symptoms as soon as possible. They had three very heavy days and then the virus start to "lift", thankfully.

They slept a lot during the day but at night, it was all a bit unsettled. Lots of coughing and trouble breathing due to swollen throats and blocked noses... At one point, I thought I was sleeping next to a pair of Grizzly Bears!

I did my best to care for my humans with lots of fluffy cuddles, comforting miaows and head boinks. I also followed them around from room to room (when needed) to make sure they were fine.

What a dose though! The only 'plus side' was the weather was pretty grim during their quarantine so they were happy enough to be indoors...

Another plus was that we got to do some "home delivery groceries" with Albert Heijn - such a handy option under the circumstances and the delivery was quick and smooth. I had some small concerns initially as I was running low on kitty treats and kibble but happily the order contained plenty of tasty things for little tubbies!

Along with some ice-cream... I suspect the Häagen-Dazs was more for my humans and their sore throats - but I was of course still happy to sneak a taste :)

Even though my humans are doing better and things are fine at Casa Tubbs, we have entered Carnival weekend here in Maastricht. Normally my humans would "escape" the city but with all that has been going, it was not an ideal time to plan a getaway. So we are hunkering down and hoping to get through the coming nights as best possible...

ree

It is wonderful to live in the city centre of Maastricht - except when it's Carnival! :(

Don't get me wrong, it's nice that folks can celebrate this occasion once again but it's just not 'my thing'...

That said, Friday wasn't too bad (though ear plugs were required for my humans) but we will see how things go from Sunday to Tuesday...

My human took this photo of me while I was gazing up at the window and taking in the noise and music coming in from outside...

I realized that from this angle, my "tuxedo" is concealed and I appear to be a beautiful black cat - I'm such a master of disguise!

Well dear friends I think I will say farewell for now... I hope to write again very soon...

In the meantime, sending out my love and thoughts to all the people of Ukraine and to all who are being impacted by the current situation. It really is a scary world right now and I can see the distress on my human's faces when they watch the news reports on TV.

I hope with all my kitty heart that everything will be OK again real soon and that the darkness faced by the people of Ukraine (and felt by the world) will once again turn to light...

ree

With love,

LT x
